Film by Philip Booth
This short film by Philip Booth has some of the highlights of the Second Stroud Sacred Music Festival which brings together musicians from a variety of spiritual traditions to celebrate unity and peace. The line-up of artists included the world-renowned duo Susheela Raman and Sam Mills, who have taken their vibrant Sufi Bhakti musical sounds all over the globe - plus the international group, the Ganda Boys, who are huge stars in their homeland of Uganda plus the devotional dance band, The Raga Babas. There was also a programme of Sacred music workshops plus a Bhangra procession through Stroud.
The festival was the dream of the Revd Simon Howell of St Laurence Parish Church.
“It is essentially an act of peace. We have aspired to bring together outstanding and soulful musicians from many spiritual paths this year - including from Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, anthroposophical and indigenous traditions - in this expression of unity.”
Both he and co-director Girish Patel share the belief that music is the language of the heart, and can succeed in bringing unity and peace when dialogue fails.
